Interests

In addition to general pediatric urology, Dr. Makari’s areas of clinical interest include genitourinary reconstruction for patients with exstrophy/epispadias complex, neurogenic bladder dysfunction and disorders/differences of sex development. He participates in a number of multidisciplinary clinics with a range of specialists to optimize the care of these patients. Dr. Makari is also actively involved in clinical research focusing on improving the care of children with Urologic diagnoses.

Dr. Makari is section chief of pediatric urology at Children's Hospital & Medical Center. He received his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, Ohio. He completed his Urology residency at George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, D.C., and his Pediatric Urology fellowship at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn.

Prior to joining Children’s, Dr. Makari was a pediatric urologist in Hartford, Conn. He also was an assistant professor of Surgery (Urology) and Pediatrics at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine, and an associate clinical professor of Urology at New York Medical College. Prior to medical school, he received his Masters of Healthcare Administration from The Ohio State University College of Public Health and his Masters of Arts in Public Policy and Management from The Ohio State University John Glenn School of Public Affairs. He currently is an associate professor of Urologic Surgery at UNMC College of Medicine.
