Nebraska Medicine is known nationally for being a leading multiple myeloma treatment center.

Historically, there has been little hope for people with multiple myeloma, the second most common type of blood cancer. But thanks to recent advancements in cancer research, multiple myeloma is now a cancer with one of the most promising outlooks. Survival rates have increased significantly and new treatment drugs are being introduced at a faster rate than any other cancer.

Nebraska Medicine has a team of specialists dedicated to the treatment of multiple myeloma as well as myeloma research. Our team is playing an integral role in research, new discoveries and innovative treatments.

At Nebraska Medicine, You Benefit from

A Team Approach from Experts in the Field

A multidisciplinary team of multiple myeloma experts and other specialists work collaboratively to develop a comprehensive and individualized treatment plan for each patient. This includes our multiple myeloma specialists, bone marrow transplant specialists, radiation oncologists, and pain management experts. Because our experts specialize in multiple myeloma, they are familiar with the newest drugs and are current on the rapidly changing guidelines. We also have the largest blood and bone marrow transplant program in the area, which draws patients from across the country and around the world. Blood and bone marrow transplant is a common treatment for multiple myeloma patients.

Our team will work closely with your primary care doctor and other providers. All patients undergoing cancer treatment with Nebraska Medicine have access to our Infusion Center at the Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center, which serves as a treatment center and urgent-care-type facility for those battling cancer.

You will also benefit from our large clinical trial program, which includes multiple myeloma trials for newly diagnosed patients, patients undergoing bone marrow transplant and for patients with relapsed/refractory disease. These clinical trials offer new treatment approaches including novel drugs and cellular therapies, and positions Nebraska Medicine at the forefront of myeloma research.

Specialists to Treat Bone Lesions

A common symptom of multiple myeloma is bone pain, caused by bone lesions. Orthopaedic doctors who focus on issues related to your bones will assist with properly diagnosing and treating these issues.

We Help Write the Guidelines

Not only is Nebraska Medicine a leader in multiple myeloma, but our doctors are constantly evaluating and updating the guidelines for myeloma care and treatment.

The Fred & Pamela Buffett Cancer Center at Nebraska Medicine is a National Cancer Institute (NCI) Designated Cancer Center, one of 69 NCI Designated Cancer Centers in the country. This an alliance of some of the country’s leading cancer centers that collaborate to produce standard evidence-based guidelines for cancer treatment.

Pioneering New Treatments

We are a primary member of the Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology, an NCI sponsored cooperative group and a core center for the Bone Marrow Transplant Clinical Trials Network (BMT/CTN).

Nebraska Medicine is also part of the National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute Bone Marrow Transplant Clinical Trials Network – a consortium of approximately 20 transplant centers across the country that collaborate on clinical trials in order to derive data from a larger population of patients and to allow for greater sharing of information between centers.
