You asked, we answered: Is there a home remedy for vaginal yeast infections?

Question:
What's a home remedy for having a vaginal yeast infection? Is there an oral pill or ointment option?
Answer from OB-GYN Carly Jennings, MD:
A vaginal yeast infection can be treated at home with an over-the-counter medication called Monistat. Monistat is a cream that is inserted vaginally, typically at night, for one to seven nights.
If you try over-the-counter treatment and symptoms don’t improve, contact your provider. They can evaluate what’s causing your symptoms and prescribe an oral medication, such as Diflucan, if needed. Diflucan is an oral antifungal that you typically take as a one-time dose. However, you can take a second dose in 72 hours if symptoms persist.
