Colorectal cancer is the third most common type of cancer in the United States.
Approximately 2 percent of people in the United States will be diagnosed with colorectal cancer.
The number one risk factor for colorectal cancer is age.
Other important risk factors include smoking and a family history of colon polyps or colorectal cancer.
At age 60 a person should start getting a routine colonoscopy.
Quitting smoking can reduce my risk of colon cancer.
Studies have also shown that taking a baby aspirin daily reduces my risk of developing colorectal cancer.
A colonoscopy can only detect 70 percent of advanced polyps and invasive cancers.
If polyps are found, that means I have cancer.
If the polyps are completely removed during a colonoscopy, they will not grow into cancer.
I don’t have any symptoms so I can’t have colon cancer.
