Registered Nurse: Medical-Surgical

Medical surgical nurses are central to patient care, using a team approach to assess and treat various medical conditions. They build strong bonds with patients, advocate for them and oversee their care from admission to discharge.

A high school diploma or equivalent, and an associate or Bachelor of Science degree in nursing.

Radiology Technologist

Completion of a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited program in radiology and American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification or ability to obtain ARRT certification.

Respiratory Therapist

Starting a career as a respiratory therapist opens doors to many different areas within Nebraska Medicine. Roles like respiratory equipment assistant, CNA and patient attendant serve as excellent entry points, providing foundational skills and knowledge essential for success in this field.

Respiratory therapists treat patients with breathing difficulties caused by lung conditions, offering critical care and services like pulmonary rehabilitation, newborn transport and sleep diagnostics. They operate equipment such as ventilators and nebulizers, educate on preventing lung diseases and play crucial roles in emergency and critical care settings, potentially saving lives through their interventions.

A high school diploma or equivalent, and a practical nursing certificate or diploma from an accredited program.

Paramedic

Experience as a medical receptionist, CNA or patient attendant provides essential experience in communication and patient interaction, providing a strong foundation for people interested in pursuing a career as a paramedic.

Paramedics focus on performing critical tasks such as IV placement, administering medications and monitoring patients during transport. They collaborate closely with many different health care teams, including CT/MRI staff, nurses and respiratory therapists.

Surgical Technologist

Surgical technologists have a crucial role in the operating room, supporting surgeons and ensuring smooth procedures. Positions like sterile processing associate, CNA and patient attendant provide excellent entry points to start your journey as a surgical technologist with Nebraska Medicine.

Surgical technologists, also known as operating room technicians or scrub techs, assist surgeons by anticipating and managing surgical needs. They handle instruments, supplies and equipment crucial for successful operations while supporting various tasks in the operating room and advocating for patient needs. Tasks may include holding retractors, cutting sutures, suctioning wounds, applying dressings and more.

A high school diploma or equivalent, and a graduate of an accredited surgical technology program.

We offer a Surgical Technologist Sponsorship Program for eligible employees. This program is offered through Dignity College of Healthcare. If accepted, you will:

  • Receive paid tuition for the accelerated online program.
  • Work four months with Nebraska Medicine as a sterile processing. associate while completing courses and receiving hands-on training.
  • Receive a promotion to surgical technologist with a pay increase upon completion of the program.

Medical Assistant

Work alongside medical providers and other professionals like nurses, pharmacists, radiologists, behavioral health specialists and social workers. Assist physicians and support staff with duties such as preparing examination rooms, administering medications, taking medical histories, recording vital signs, explaining treatments and supporting various medical procedures.

High school diploma, or equivalent, and a certificate from an approved medical assistant program (CCMA).

We offer a Medical Assistant Sponsorship Program for eligible employees. This program is offered through Clarkson College and CareerStep. If accepted, you'll receive:

  • Paid tuition for a nine-month online course.
  • Coordination of required externship with Nebraska Medicine.
  • Employment after program completion as a medical assistant.

Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)

Starting a career as a CNA opens doors to many different areas within Nebraska Medicine. Roles like medical receptionist, patient attendant and phlebotomist serve as excellent entry points, providing the foundational skills needed to excel as a CNA.

Certified nursing assistants provide essential patient care under the supervision of a registered nurse or licensed practical nurse. Their responsibilities include assisting with bathing, dressing and monitoring vital signs. CNAs are advocates for patients, acting as an extension of the nursing staff when they are not in the room. Ideal candidates for CNA roles are those with a strong work ethic, eagerness to learn, a passion for caregiving and a positive attitude that boosts team morale.

A minimum age of 16 is required. Successful completion of a CNA certificate program and certification in Nebraska is required.

We offer a CNA Sponsorship Program for eligible employees. This online program is offered through Clarkson College. If accepted, you'll receive:

  • Paid tuition for the online course.
  • Employment after program completion as a CNA.
