Heather's Story
Dr. Singh was a miracle worker
Her condition worsened as she grew older, and she suffered frequent seizures as
a teen. "They would just happen at any time, any moment," recalled Heather. "I would
fall down stairs... pass out at school in the middle of class. It was terrifying
for me because I was a teenager."
Desperate for an answer, the Overton family turned to The Nebraska Medical Center.
Here, they found Sanjay Singh, M.D., the region's only epileptologist. Dr. Singh
and his team employed a comprehensive fourphase monitoring and treatment system
using some of the most advanced diagnostic equipment available.
Heather's epilepsy is now controlled with medications, and she has been seizure-free
for two years. "Dr. Singh was a miracle worker," Heather said. Today, at age 22,
Heather is pursuing a management degree at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. She
and her mother, Mary, founded the state's first epilepsy support group. "I have
been amazed by Heather's zeal to help people in the community with epilepsy," said
Dr. Singh. "She now serves as an inspiration to other young people with the disorder."
